· Globe & Mail (Toronto, Canada) 03/28/98 BCE, a telecommunications concern, plans to merge its corporate head office functions with those of Bell Canada, its utility division. Montreal, Canada-based BCE will integrate 150 of its head office workers with the 1,250 employees at Bell who work in legal, finance, corporate communication and human resource functions. It also intends to cut that merged corporate staff by 15%, slashing as many as 200 jobs. BCE was formed from a reorganization of Bell Canada in 1983 by then chairman and CEO A. Jean de Grandpré. Abstracted from Canadian Business 05/01/97 Canadian telecommunications giant BCE Inc. has become a leaner, more nimble company under the guidance of President Ron Osborne. The $28 billion a year firm is a holding company created to reinvest the profits from Bell Canada in 1983. Under Osborne, the company has recovered from a disastrous early spending spree, earning $1.15 billion in 1996, compared to $782 million in 1995. The company has plans for international expansion and hopes to enter the cable television market when regulators allow it. His company, Spar Aerospace Ltd, was later identified, as a member of who bought 2.5% of Telesat 100% own by Bell Canada in 1992. BCE bought its original 57% stake after the privatization of Telesat, the Stentor consortium of Canada's major regional carriers bought the 39.5% shares and Spar Aerospace Ltd bought the remaining shares 2.5%.
