Pierre Elliot Trudeau

Joseph Phillippe Pierre Ives Elliott Trudeau was born on October 18th 1919, in Montreal, Quebec. Pierre was the 2nd child of Charles Emile (father) and Grace Trudeau. His father was a successful Montreal businessman, his mother was of Scottish ancestry.

Pierre attended a long list of schools throughout his life. Trudeau received an honors Law Degree from the University of Montreal and an honors degree in Political Economics from Harvard. As well Trudeau received a number of honorary degree's from various Universities around the world.

Pierre was raised in an English and French speaking household. Even today Pierre often speaks both languages to his brother and his sister. Pierre grew up in an atmosphere of money and social standings. While Pierre was in office most of the time he was trying to unite the two cultures despite their differences. At age 52, he was married to Margaret Sinclair the daughter of former cabinet minister James Sinclair. They had three sons Justin, Sasha and Michel.

Trudeau's major goals while in office were to combine English and French speaking Canadians. Pierre was exposed to this at an early age . In his home, he would have separate discussions with his parents because his mother spoke English, and his father spoke French. He also thought that the "national government stood a better chance protecting the French language than a French only Quebec on its own."

One of Pierre's first accomplishments was when he was called to the bar in 1943.

He was elected to the House of Commons in 1965, as a Liberal.

In 1967, he was honor to be elected Justice Minister of Lester B. A few years later Pierre was elected the 15th Prime Minister of Canada, and "Trudeaumania" began. However, in 1979 he intended to resign , but was later convinced to run again.

Less than three months later Pierre was the Prime Minister again.

While in office he started many new things like: Charter of Rights and Freedoms, 1984; tried for world peace in Nuclear arms race, doing so he received the Albert Einstein Peace Prize; Official Languages act; Improved Francophones position in Ottawa, he also brought official Bilingualism to Canada. Pierre was the first Prime Minister of Canada born in the 20th century.

While in office he faced many attacks from the Parti Quebecois, for reasons of separation.

On February 29th, 1984 Trudeau announced his full retirement from office.

After he Retired he became a lawyer at a local Montreal Law firm. Pierre Elliott Trudeau could possibly be the most dominant figure in the 20th century, in Canada.

Pierre was always noted for his social standings, radical ways and for his political charisma.

Pierre was desired by every man and woman in the country. " Women wanted to go out with him, men wanted to be him."

Pierre was able to last long in office because he often knew what the people wanted because he acted like a regular person.

Pierre was a defender of strong French demands.

Trudeau announced his full retirement from office.

After he Retired he became a lawyer at a local Montreal Law Firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson .
