DESBIENS, R. - Engineer I
Mr. Desbiens received his D.E.C. from CEGEP La Pocatiere in 1972. In September
1972 he entered the University of Laval to study Engineering Physics, special
' izing in electronic systems. During the studies, he did a number of projects
which include a body fluid. analyzer for CHUL (Centre Hospitalier de l'
Université
Laval) and a computer interface with a piano keyboard using FSK transmission.
In-April 1976 he graduated from the University with a B-..Sc.
In May 1976 he worked with a consultant engineer specializing in
mineral, prospecting. During this time he developed an I.P. receiver (Induced
Polarization) and carried out a survey for different instruments in mineral
prospecting.
In January 1977, he joined RCA Limited and worked on the design and development
of the MCIU automatic test system f or the Shuttle Remote Manipulator System
(SRMS) Electrical Subsystem.
In September 1978, with the help of two other persons he founded a company
in instrumentation for Geological Surveys, for which he is working part time.
He assisted in the design of an Electronic Level which was patented by the
company. The Electronic Level uses analog and digital principles and it
is used for elevation measurements. Also he worked on a new type of
Electro magnetometer which is used to find minerals in the ground.
Since 1979, he has been responsible for the writing of the handbook, design
modification and production testing of the MCIU units for the Shuttle Remote
Manipulator System (SRMS).
